~Power In Words~

     For the my process section I have chosen to go over the process that I had in writing my “This I Believe” essay. The process in its entirety shows the development of myself as a writer, from the planning process of my first draft early on in the semester, to my finalized draft submitted on the last day of class. My process had roughly 11 steps that turned a few jumbled words on a sheet of paper, to a masterpiece that had effectively communicated the concept that I had wanted to get across. Though I was satisfied with my end result my process was very tedious and time consuming. It was a growing process that showed my growth not only as a writer, but as a person in general. At the start of this process I was a deeply conflicted individual, my personal life had left my head completely jumbled and I was thoroughly confused as to how I would effectively produce a piece about a grand belief that I had, when at that moment in my life reality had been turned upside down and I wasn’t quite sure what to believe myself. I had the unrealistic expectation for my writer to somehow be a powerful message that could change the world but how was I to accomplish such a task when I had no idea what to write about? I had remembered a phrase that I had heard a long time ago “write what you know” and so I decided to give that a shot. Instead of coming up with a concept that my personal life would consistently distract me from, I followed the idea behind the phrase and wrote about the personal life that had been jumbling my thoughts throughout the entire process. With the help of in class workshops, several commenting individuals, critical thinking, exploring techniques, as well as a couple revisions I was able to achieve the dream that I had for the paper, ultimately creating a focused and efficient piece that told a story with the purpose I had imagined.
